Titelverdedigster Simona Halep (WTA 3) has Saturday qualified for the eighth finals at Roland Garros.
The Romanian had this time – in contrast to the first two rounds – only two sets are required: with the Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (WTA 27) charged them with 6-2 and 6-1 in less than an hour. “However, it was harder than it seemed, against a player who fights for every point”, so responded the former number one in the world.
Halep now has nearly a free road to the final four. In the eighth finals, she will take the first against the winner of the match between Puerto Rican Monica Puig (WTA 59), the reigning olympic champion, and the eighteen-year-old Polish Iga Swiatek (WTA 104), in an eventual quarterfinal dodges it the topreekshoofden.
Last year, Halep in Paris, a Grand slam to her name. This she did by the American Sloane Stephens (WTA 7) with 3-6, 6-4 and 6-1 defeat in the final.
