The Maltese navy has 75 migrants rescued from the Mediterranean Sea. A further 103 other people in the night of Wednesday on Thursday, arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa, and a boat with migrants would Thursday morning still in trouble.
The migrants by the Maltese navy were saved, were clinging to a tonijnkooi on the high seas, according to the navy, without more details to give.
The High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN had in the meantime also know that two boats in the night between Wednesday and Thursday arrived with respectively 46 and 57 migrants on the island of Lampedusa. They had Libya at least three days ago to leave, and were noticed by fishermen.
The German organization, Watch the Med, that the emergency Alarm Phone controls, announced since Wednesday regularly in contact with passengers of a boat in difficulty. That would be 90 people on board, among whom 15 children.
Hundreds of people remain in Libya every week they go out to sea, even though many boats are intercepted by the Libyan coastguard.
