Jolien D’hoore (Boels-Dolmans) has Wednesday, one of the favourites in the Emakumeen Bira (Spa/WorldTour) won. Our compatriot sprinted after 101 km in the Basque Iurreta to the victory for the Italian Sofia Bertizzolo and the Australian Gracie Elvin. She is also the first leader.
After the stage race in California brought the WorldTour and the riders Wednesday to the Basque country for a four-day stage race, the twelfth race on the WorldTour calendar. The first early vluchter with a significant lead was the Polish Anna Plichta of Pull-Segafredo. They cycled a bonus of 2 minutes at each other, but on the first climb of the day, the Artebakarra, she got it hard and she was bijgebeend by the peloton.
On the second and last climb of the day, the Astoreka, ventured Elisa Longo Borghini and Amanda Spratt, to their chance and a clue of a half a minute at each other on a smaller platoon that is organized as a sprint. Among others, Boels-Dolmans, D’hoore, and not among the leaders, resulted in hard work.
The escapees were picked up, twelve kilometers, after which Jelena Eric in the attack caught, but they, too, could be a sprint, not prevent, just as little as Katia Ragusa. In that sprint was belgian champion Jolien D’hoore perfectly by her Boels Dolmans team brought to the front and sprinted them to the victory.
It is for D’hoore her first victory of the year. Last year brought Amanda Spratt, the contest on her name, for Annemiek Van Vleuten and Anna van der Breggen. From Thursday there will be a lot of climbing in the Basque country.
