The prime minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern (38) is engaged to her boyfriend Clarke Gayford (41). He asked her in marriage during the easter holidays.
The news was apparent when Ardern Friday was spotted with a ring. Her spokesperson confirmed that the couple is engaged and that Ardern the ring already wearing it since Easter. No further details are known about the engagement.
Ardern and Gayford have been for six years a couple and were last year for the first time parents. She gave birth in Auckland a girl, Neve Te Aroha, while they premier. After six weeks she went back to work, her boyfriend, a television presenter, remained at home for their daughter. She is only the second head of government who gives birth during her reign, after Pakistaande premier Benazir Bhutto in 1990.
Photos of Ardern and her dochten went around the world when she Neve took them to a meeting of the United Nations in New York. She was the first female head of government who did that.
The honest way in which Jacinda Ardern dealt with the attack in Christchurch, where 51 people were killed, gave her a lot of praise.
