On Saturday 26 October, will be in Beringen-a brand new international topveldrit take place. The domain be-MINE, the historic mine site of Beringen, one for the riders and spectators spectacular cross drawn on the flanks of the slag heap. “Be-MINE, the largest industrial erfgoedsite in Flanders, offers unprecedented opportunities for a wonderful track to draw,” explains Erwin Vervecken of the organizers Golazo sports. “The serviceweg behind the shopping center next to the slag heap is located is ideal as a start – and aankomststrook. Just after the start the riders will be the well known slag heap is empty. Each round there will be two klimpassages and two runs, one technical and one on speed,” said the triple world champion cyclocross.
“We will in the coming weeks and months, the trail further fine-tuning, but it promises anyway unique, with no other cross to compare,” says Vervecken. “If I make a comparison with the road racing may make then I’d be the cross in Beringen described as a purebred klimklassieker.”
And also for the spectators it will be a special experience. “Who is at the start and finish area seat, has a perfect view of the slag heap and the riders all of the time can follow during their slingertocht up and down. And fans to the top of the slag heap steps, will be treated to a great view at the be-MINE and at the start and finish,” says Tijs Lemmens, alderman of sports of the Limburg municipality.
The cross in Beringen has the green light received from the KBWB and will be on Saturday 26 October to take place, under condition of approval of the technical dossier from the UCI.
On the slag heap is a mountain bike route. It is obvious that these roads will be used for cyclocross.
