In the framework of the WEC 6 hours of Spa-Francorchamps was officially announced that Fernando Alonso after the 24 hours of Le Mans will say goodbye to Toyota. Former F1 pilot Brendon Hartley is his replacement.
Alonso began already during his F1 career at McLaren a collaboration with Toyota. The Spaniard won the 24 hours of Le Mans and will also in the coming weeks to participate in the 6 hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the 24 hours of Le Mans.
Then he takes farewell of the Toyota and the WEC-adventure that they had together. The Spanish two-time F1 champion, hopes to end of may and the Indy 500 to his name to write, and so the famous “Triple Crown” to complete.
“I have greatly enjoyed to be part of Toyota’s Gazoo Racing in the WEC. This chapter is however at the end. Winning the 24 hours of Le Mans was one of the highlights of my career, part of my throw back to the Triple Crown,” said Alonso.
It is remarkable that Alonso the door for a possible collaboration with Toyota does not close completely. The cooperation in the WEC, may be stop, Alonso tested earlier this year however, a Toyota Hilux, a first glimpse on a possible participation in the Dakar Rally?
