In a report, the royal belgian football association, however, Somers, along with football agent Dejan Veljkovic and financial director Thierry Steemans as one of the three ‘architects’ of matchfixing.

Our newspaper picked up on Friday with a reconstruction of the failed omkopingspoging of KV Mechelen against Waasland-Beveren on the slotmatch of the regular season last season. That reconstruction is based on a 158-page report, in which the Belgian Football association three ‘architects’ of matchfixing indicates: football agent Dejan Veljkovic, director of finance Thierry Steemans and principal shareholder Olivier Somers. Not the very best architects for that matter, as the attempt to KV in the first to keep, turned on a damp squib (read the reconstruction here).
Olivier Somers denied via a statement on the website of KV Mechelen, that he has something to do with matchfixing. “Through this way, I wish to emphasize that I at no time have contributed to any form of competitievervalsing,” says Somers. “I have, however, noticed that my name repeatedly mentioned in the media on the basis of incorrect and one-sided claims listed in the claim of the bondsparket. I will make all these statements refute the proper authorities and will work together with the club the path to continue, and this both in sporting and commercial level in 1A. I remember me of any comments on any further insinuations and notifications.”
Also KV Mechelen denies
