The 33-year-old man from East-flanders will get with Serge Pauwels still one compatriot in service. It is the team of CCC from the Italian Alessandro De Marchi, the Dutchman Laurens Ten Dam, the Czech Josef Cerny, the American Joey Rosskopf and the German Jonas Koch.

“I’m happy with my condition”, commented Van Avermaet ahead. “I’ve managed my form of the kasseiklassiekers to maintain. With the new finish in Liege in mind, I think a chance at a good result. I will certainly not start as favourite, but I am very motivated my classic season well quit.”

Of the Team’s key lieutenant will probably Alessandro De Marchi. He was last Sunday, still seventh in the Amstel Gold Race. For Van Avermaet is his fifth participation in La Doyenne. A seventh place on his debut in 2011 is still his best result.
