The 42nd edition of the Dakar will be in 2020 is organized in Saudi Arabia. The contest will start on 5 January in Jeddad and ends on 17 January in a new and futuristic complex of Al-Qiddiya located in the neighborhood of the capital Riyadh, where the rest day is organised.
The participants will be given a route of 9,000 km for the wheels slid, more than 4,000 km more in comparison with the last edition organized in Peru. The news was announced Thursday during a press conference organized in Al-Qiddiya.
After three decades in Africa, and eleven years South America the Dakar for the first time to the East, where Saudi Arabia is the eighth country that the Dakar will do. Many details about the trail are not yet known, except that the Dakar start in Jeddad, the economic heart of Saudi Arabia. The today/Thursday organised press conference was attended by prince Abdulaziz bin Turki AlFaisal Al Saud and prince Khalid Bin Sultan Abdullah Al Faisal. Except the princes were Laia Sanz, Stéphane and Andréa Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz, Giniel de Villiers, Nani Roma, Adrien van Beveren, Joan Barreda, Sam Sunderland and thuisrijder Yazeed Al Rahji. From the Belgian side, was Jean-Marc Fortin, the team Overdrive Racing, present.
The Saudi area, bounded on the west by the Red Sea and in the east by the Arabian Gulf, offers desert areas with varied characteristics, making it possible to have a complete route to building that complies with the requirements of the Dakar: stuurvaardigheid in combination with speed, complemented with navigation and the test of the endurance of the participants.
The participants get a completely new track for the wheels pushed with, among other rides in the mountains located on the Jordanian border, as well as the giant dunes of Quart Vide which up to 250 meters high.
