The Notre-Dame of Paris is ‘almost saved’ despite some ‘sensitive points’ to the vault. That said, the French minister of Culture, Franck Riester on a hommageconcert for the cathedral, five days after the fire.
“The Notre-Dame is today almost saved, for all of the remaining sensitive areas – the northern dakgevel, the western dakgevel, between the two bell towers of the facade, the southern bell tower – all these points are secured, stabilized, and that is exciting news,” said Riester.
“The vault remains. There are some weak points to the vault and so are the teams of the ministry of Culture, the companies, working to clear the debris that is still located on the ceiling, and gradually to cover. From then on, we will be able to say that the Notre-Dame cathedral of Paris saved, ” said the cultuurminister in the courtyard of Les Invalides, in the centre of Paris, where the big concert took place.
“There are 300,000 people that a modest donation to have done, of one, two or five euros. In total, that makes almost twenty million euros thanks to the small donations of the people, ” said a satisfied tv presenter Stéphane Bern, the figures quoted from the Foundation for cultural Heritage.
France will be an international architectural competition organizing to decide how the ‘new’ Notre-Dame should look like. Who will decide whether the tower rebuilt, and the tower of architect Viollet-le-Duc in the same way to rebuilt. Also a new spire, adapted to the techniques and challenges of our time, to the possibilities.
