Team Dimension Data start Sunday in the Amstel Gold Race with the complete podium of last year’s edition. The Dane Michael Valgren, last year’s triumphant, came over from Astana. Roman Kreuziger was last year second on behalf of Mitchelton-Scott and the Italian Enrico Gasparotto third in the shirt of Bahrain-Merida. The Czech and the Italian stepped up this winter to the South African team for which Julien Vermote his chance to go in the river Amstel.

Gasparotto and Kreuziger are also former winners of the only Dutch cycling classic. The Italian won in 2012 and 2016, Kreuziger was in 2013 the best. “On paper we have indeed a strong team for the Gold Race,” said Valgren. “But we are riding Sunday, not on paper. It runs to form, and there are a lot of boys who are strong bikes. We have fortunately experienced team. This is an important goal for our team.”
