Movistar and BORA-hansgrohe have their team announced for the Amstel Gold Race next Sunday. Team leaders Alejandro Valverde and Peter Sagan can count on a strong team, for them to have a first win in the Dutch province of Limburg.
The almost 39-year-old Valverde gets compatriots Carlos Barbero, Jaime Castrillo, Imanol Erviti and Carlos Verona, and further, the Costa Rican Andrey Amador and the Colombian Carlos Betancur, last weekend still the winner in the Klasika Primavera. The world champion is not yet on the roll of honour of the Amstel Gold Race. In his eleven previous participations, he was twice second (in 2013 and 2015) and once third (2008).
Also Peter Sagan won never in the river Amstel. He stands for his fifth participation. A third place in 2012 is still his best result. The Slovaak start with the Italians Cesare Benedetti and Daniel Oss, the Austrian Patrick Konrad, the Australian Jay McCarthy and the Germans, Marcus Burghardt and Maximilian Schachmann at his side. Especially that last, Schachmann, is on an impressive spring busy. He came in the middle of Quick-Step and won this season all the GP Industria & Artigianato, a stage in the Tour of Catalonia and three stages in the Tour of the Basque country.
