“I was very disappointed after Paris-Roubaix (where he is the twelfth finished, red.)”, started Of the Team are preview. “I had the legs to get a better result. In the Amstel Gold Race, I get a last chance to get my spring color. I miss an absolute top result, but showed a lot of regularity. The form is good. In comparison with the previous races, the Amstel Gold Race something completely different. It is the Ardennenklassieker me the best. With riders such as Patrick Bevin, Alessandro De Marchi and Serge Pauwels to my side, we have enough options in the team. There will be – unlike in the kasseiklassiekers – no pressure are on our team for the race in check. We’ll see how it goes and hopefully I end with a good result.”
Van Avermaet starts Sunday for the ninth time in the Gold Race. His best result was a fifth place in 2015.
