Stoffel Vandoorne takes first-ever podium in Formula E, D’Ambrosio, re leader

Stoffel Vandoorne has for the first time, a spot on the podium conquered in the Formula E. The Rumbekenaar drove a virtually perfect race in Rome and ended on the third place. The race was won by Mitch Evans of Jaguar Racing, André Lotterer (DS Techeetah) was second. Jérôme D ” Ambrosio, came tenth on the measure, and is again the leader.

After a great qualifying, not for the first time this season, if Stoffel Vandoorne (HWA Racelab) at the front on the grid to integrate for the race. The Rumbekenaar was fourth in the first European race of the season commenced, whereas our other compatriot Jérôme d ” Ambrosio all a bit stiffer went. He qualified only on place nineteen and thus had a lot of work to do.

The race started with a damp track and Vandoorne made a good start. He moved up one spot to the detriment of José Maria Lopez (Geox Dragon), who verremde. The slippery road surface was also right spectacle: both Alexander Sims (BMW) as Maximilian Günther (Geox Dragon) went to the wall. When Lopez walked in the meanwhile all wrong. The Argentinian caused a huge jam in which no less than 11 cars, half of the starting field, therefore, were involved. The red flag was hung which makes the race for an indefinite period interrupted.

After almost an hour of waiting, the race finally got going again flagged, with Vandoorne and D’Ambrosio, respectively, on third and sixteen. Vandoorne was great connecting with leader André Lotterer (DS Techeetah) and number two, Mitch Evans (Jaguar), but overtaking was not really there in the Italian capital. Although our compatriot is definitely the bag of tricks bovenhaalde: he tried leidersduo to attack with the attack mode – without success – and if in the second part of the race is also the fan boost, as he is with the fans again, the most popular rider appeared.

In the second half of the race was the focus for Lotterer and Evans, who each other for no meter, solved the problem. With still fifteen minutes to go and grabbed Evans his chance: the New Zealander wurmde along Lotterer in the chicane before the start/finish line and took the lead. Vandoorne was just a little too far to also attack car on the German. Lotterer seemed defeated, but he still won. Twice he tried Evans to attack with the help of the attack mode. And although the German very close, he could the leadership not to re-conquer.

Behind the leading duo and Stoffel Vandoorne was also Jérôme d ” Ambrosio to a strong race in progress. The Brussels worked his way steadily forward, as we now used from him – and ended up even in points on place ten. All the way the front changed nothing: Evans could Lotterer off and became the seventh different winner in as many races. In addition, each race still won by a different constructor: unique. At HWA Racelab the party will also be great: Vandoorne gave his team its first ever podium in the electric racing series.
