Mathieu van der Poel has the geflikt. The world champion picked up the victory in the Noordzeecross in Middelkerke and becomes the second rider ever in one season all the matches of the world cup win. Van der Poel is of course also the winner of the oldest regelmatigheidscriterium in cyclo-cross, for the fourth time in five years and the third time in a row.

Van der Poel, who earlier this week for a few days on a skiing holiday went, came in the first round, fell in the sand. But that stopped the Netherlands from making it there again a real demonstration of. In the third of eight rounds considered VDP moment has come. The collected competition would be the man with the rainbow jersey no longer see again.

Behind the unleashed Van der Poel was an interesting fight for the second place. The technically skilled Michael Vanthourenhout turned to the sea in his element. The Telenet Fidea duo of Toon Aerts and Quinten Hermans had the man in the blue jersey of Marlux-Bingoal let it ride. Vanthourenhout held even the pressure on leader Van der Poel, because at the start of the final lap, the difference between the two just 17 seconds.

But Van der Poel had not more to fear. He was extensive to celebrate. He is only the second man ever to be in one season each round of the Superprestige wins: only Sven Nys did that, the Dutch are already in the 2006-2007 season. For Van der Poel is also his fourth victory in the regelmatigheidscriterium. Though the record of Nys are still far away: the Cannibal of Baal won the world cup but less than thirteen times in his long career.

Behind Van der Poel, Michael Vanthourenhout eventually second, while Toon Aerts, the third-place medal. Quinten Hermans fell in the final leg back and had as teammate Lars van der haar still pass. Kevin Pauwels, who are last klassementscross reed, finished in a handsome sixth place.
