The Scabs came Friday night in Diksmuide, it was their first gig without a Willy Willy. The lead guitarist died Wednesday evening in the presence of his family and friends to cancer.
“After a lot of phone calls we received this morning the news that the concert can continue. The conditions are obviously not optimal. Guy Swinnen may be bindteksten today do not. That is, for him, far too heavy. Therefore, we ask you to understand. For us it is all very strange, but it is an evening that we will never forget.’ So were The Scabs last Friday announced in the cultural centre Crossroads in Diksmuide.

Just before the announcement was the guitar of Willy Willy ‘in the spotlight’ on an empty stage. Some concert-goers came to the musical instrument photograph, as a keepsake. It was a subdued performance by The Scabs.
Frontman Guy Swinnen took only after a few songs the word. “This is normally the number for which we Willy Willy on the stage cried. Now we will play as a tribute to him.” After ‘Mesaboogie Feedback’ followed which standing ovation. A moment later came a cover of Rock and Roll Heart by Lou Reed. “This song builds a little bit on all of us, and especially our good friend,” says Swinnen.
Only last week joined the Willy Willy, or Willy Lambregt, still together with The Scabs during the MIA’s. They were given a Lifetime Achievement Award. The Scabs were the past few months on tour for their 40th anniversary to celebrate. Willy Willy played a large part of the performances, but never the full show.
