The popular series about the talking zeespons from the underwater city of Bikinibroek been running for two decades on the tube and can, therefore, multiple generations of fans to reach.
The vernieuwingsoperatie within Nickelodeon comes after a long period of declining ratings. The decline of linear tv viewing, especially when the target audience of the station, would be responsible. The turnaround at Nickelodeon must be complemented by some franchises to breathe new life into. So there are new movies of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ on the stack, and in August a live-action film of ‘Dora The Explorer’. There will also be more Nickelodeon content on the various digital platforms that children like to visit.
Robbins wants to also bet on more diversity. So is the interactive series “Santiago of the Seas’, about an 8-year-old pirate, immersed in the Latin-Caribbean culture.
