Deceuninck-Quick Step keeps the winner of the Scheldeprijs longer on board

Deceuninck-Quick Step has announced the contract of the Dutchman, Fabio Jakobsen to have broken up until the end of 2021. The 22-year-old fast man was last season as a pro at Quick-Step Floors. His previous contract ran to the end of this year.

In his debut year at the highest level won Jakobsen immediately seven games. With its fast eindschot he found touch in Nokere Curonian and the Scheldeprijs, and he won stages in the Binckbank Tour, Tour of Slovakia, Tour of the Fjords and Tour of Guangxi (2x).

“I am very happy to the end of 2021 for this team to be able to continue”, explained the Dutchman on the team web site. “You have nowhere better to sit. I feel that I still have much to learn and progression. I want to be one of the best sprinters in the world and this team can help me so.”

Also CEO Patrick Lefevere was delighted with the contract extension. “It is an understatement to say that we were satisfied of Fabio’s performance last year,” said Lefevere. “He knocked some of the very penalty sprinters. That shows that you are not only qualities, but also have confidence and the maturity to make the right decision in a hectic sprint. Fabio has a wonderful future for itself, and I’m glad that he has decided his career with our team.” (belga)
