Ysaline Bonaventure warns in Fed Cup: “the French are stronger than last year”

Saturday and Sunday take the Belgian tennissters in Liège in the first round of the Fed Cup against France. Last year they were in the same stage with 3-2 turned off by the French. Elise Mertens (STA-21), Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA-50), Kirsten Flipkens (WTA-53) and Ysaline Bonaventure (WTA 134) are therefore on revenge and eager. “But the French will be even stronger than last year,” warned Bonaventure on Wednesday at a press conference.

“Last year they performed without Caroline Garcia (WTA 19) and Alizé Cornet (WTA 51), which are two important players. This time they come with their best possible team to Liege. On paper, on the basis of the ranking, they are certainly better than the team of last year. Fortunately, it is in the Fed Cup everything is possible, each match must be played.”

The Belgian team is exactly the same as that of last year in Mouilleron-le-Captif (Vendée). The captain is new. Flipkens is the only one of the Belgian about four in the past Johan Van Herck worked. “He was fifteen years back my coach. For me, nothing new. Johan is a very positive person. The big advantage is that he is the captain of the Davis Cup team have a lot of experience opdeeed. This is a good thing for our team.”
