Boasson Hagen has the openingstijdrit of the Tour of Valencia won. The Noor of Team Dimension Data was in the chronorit of a thick ten kilometers, five seconds faster than the Spaniard Ion Izagirre. Our fellow countryman Dylan Teuns was with a handsome fourth place, the best Belgian.

The 70th edition of the five-day Tour of Valencia began with an individual time trial over 10.2 km in Orihuela, which ends with a little climb of 600m to 9%. Immediately, a hearty warm-up for all the big guns in Spain at the start came. Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet, tour winner Geraint Thomas and world champion Alejandro Valverde to name but a few.
The Dutch time-trial specialist then Jos van Emden set with 13’05” the first masked down, but that was quickly improved by Edvald Boasson Hagen. The Noor of Dimension Data went ten tapping faster than Emden and all the big guns who came after him would have their teeth biting on his personal best. Ion Izagirre was second, five seconds, Tony Martin seventh in seven seconds. Dylan Teuns finished handsome as the fourth, eight seconds of Boasson Hagen, and may the coming days dreaming of the leader’s jersey. All are crackers like Valverde (fourteen seconds) and Dan Martin (twenty seconds), not far from the neighborhood. Jürgen Roelandts was at 24 seconds of the fifteenth. That was three seconds slower than tour winner Geraint Thomas. Greg Van Avermaet finished in his debut for CCC as 29th.
