With ‘YouTube Kids’, parents are given a new channel for kinderfilmpjes. The app designed specifically for children was created already existed in dozens of other countries, but Tuesday also launched in Belgium.
YouTube Kids was four years ago in the U.S. was launched, and offers ‘family friendly content’ channels and playlists in four categories: shows, music, learning and explore.
The app offers parents the ability to supervise the viewing habits of their children. They can specify which movies their children should see and for how long the app should use. In the mode ‘approved content’ of the app, parents can any video or any channel, including content from, for example, Ketnet, Bumba, The Smurfs, Maya the bee and Samson & Gert, which their child access.
Child Focus speaks of a step in the right direction. “We are pleased that the major industry partners are not their responsibility, from the road go to certain challenges concerning the online safety of children to address,” says Chief Prevention & Development Officer Nel Broothaerts.
YouTube Kids is a free app, with ads that are pre-assessed. So there will be no advertisements shown for food, beverages, or video games, and pass there are no clickable ads. Who are no ads wants can be a YouTube Premium subscription.
