European cycling season opened in Mallorca: Jesus Herrada puts favorites, a nose, Tim Wellens finishes fifth

The Spaniard Jesus Herreda has the Trophy of Ses Salines, won the first race on European soil in the Spanish island of Mallorca. Herrada won solo for Guillaume Martin (Wanty), Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) and world champion Alejandro Valverde (Movistar).

A breakaway of three colored the race but the peloton never let committed. Lars Boom and Pim Ligthart reason to go to the escapees but the peloton, which was rocked by several falls, had never committed.

On the final climb – the Col de San Salvodor – fell to Guillaume Martin and the Portuguese Jose Goncalves as the first, but in the steep final kilometer disbanded Jesus Herrada (Cofidis) are devils. He took it with eleven seconds ahead of Martin, Bauke Mollema and Alejandro Valverde. Tim Wellens finished fifth in thirteen seconds of the dagwinnaar.

Mikel Landa was one of the main victims of falls. The Spaniard was taken to the hospital disposed of.
