Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff describes Michael Schumacher as one of the patriarchs of the Mercedes-AMG F1 team and all its successes.
Yesterday was Michael Schumacher for fifty years and Toto Wolff thought that an appropriate time for the loftrompet to cross over the ‘Rekordmeister.’ He has nothing but praise about the role that Schumacher has played in the construction of the Mercedes F1 team last year for the fifth consecutive time world champion in F1.
“Michael Schumacher is one of the patriarchs of the successes that we have in the last five years have been able to celebrate,” said Wolff. “There is no rider like he and his vast experience has had a huge contribution to the development of our team.”
“He played a crucial role in our return in the Formula 1, and has the foundation laid for future successes. We are extremely grateful for everything he has done for us.”
The Austrian also remembers still his first encounter with Schumacher and also how obvious was that he was a great champion.
“I still remember how I Michael first met.It was in 2012 on a flight between Zurich and Singapore. He sat next to me and asked if I would be interested in a game of Backgammon. I think of myself that I a not sour Backgammon player myself but he made me the first two laps in because I was so ‘starstruck’ was.”
“I have to go gradually improved my game and we have the whole flight long played and talked. We had a good and honest conversation, and by the time we had landed I had the impression that I him much longer knew.”
Toto Wolff also after again in the paint to put what Schumacher all means for Formula 1 in general.
“Michael has had an enormous impact on the Formula 1,” Wolff continued. “He not only has incredible records act, which still must be broken, but he also has the sport changed and designed differently.”
“As a rider, he has the Formula 1 to a different level by his technical knowledge and eye for detail. He did everything with a huge perseverance, of his debriefing with the engineers to his physical preparation.
