Deceuninck-Quick Step pulls with Bob Jungels as leader to the Giro

Deceuninck-Quick Step has announced on Thursday that the Luxemburger Bob Jungels this year will start in the Tour of Italy (11 may-2 June). Jungels showed last year with an eleventh place in the overall classification of the Tour and victory in liège-Bastogne-Liège.

The 26-year-old Jungels rode the Giro earlier in 2016 and 2017. He then ended, respectively, sixth and eighth and also won every time the white jongerentrui. In 2017 he added there is still a victory, the first for a Native in more than half a century.

Previously, he also made the Dutchman Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) is already known to focus on the Giro this season. The three time trials in the race route are in the basis. “This year, with almost sixty kilometers against the clock, a circuit for time trialists” said Jungels. “There are a lot of hilly rides, with passages over the Gavia and the Mortirolo. The Giro is – in contrast to the Tour – always difficult to control. It is an open race and that is me.”

Jungels start his season next month in the Tour of Colombia (12-17 February).
