1.000 classics Radio 2 has also this year no new captain

‘Bohemian rhapsody’ by the British group Queen is indestructible. For the eighth time, the listeners of Radio 2 is the epic rock song from 1975 as their favorite in the 1,000 classics. ‘Dancing queen’ by Abba at number two and “Thriller” of Michael Jackson on three to complete the podium of the twelfth edition.

The list anno 2018 contains songs from nine decades with a strong representation of the sixties and seventies. ‘In the mood’ by Glenn Miller from 1939 is the oldest classic.

Queen also wins the battle as the most popular artist with less than fourteen songs in the list, a duet with David Bowie makes for a fifteenth listing. Here also hijacks Abba silver road with thirteen songs in the list.

The 1,000 classics counted 162 Flemish productions and 159 Dutch-language songs. Will Tura is mentioned nine times in the list, Clouseau eight times, as well as northern neighbour Marco Borsato.

The fastest riser this year is ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen, that 744 to place win and from 992 to 248 jumps. ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams from 2013 is on place 171 the highest newcomer.
