The Belgian Volleyfederatie has former assistant Brecht Van Kerckhove appointed as new coach of the Red Dragons. He follows Andrea Anastasi, who in mid-december, stopped for family reasons as T1 from the national mannenvolleybalploeg. He was Friday presented in the Euro Volley Center in Vilvoorde.
The 42-year-old Brecht Van Kerckhove follows the Italian Andrea Anastasi, of whom he is the assistant. Together led the Red Dragons in september to a historic seventh place at the world CHAMPIONSHIPS in Italy. The 58-year-old Anastasi was only since the summer started work with the national team. He stepped in earlier this month for personal reasons. Van Kerckhove was earlier though, since by the end of 2016, T2 in addition to Vital Heynen, Anastasi’s predecessor. Previously, he held the same position at the Yellow Tigers (the volleyvrouwen).
The Limburger was as a player for Antwerp, Lennik, Roeselare and Maaseik. The latter club he was in 2013 is head coach. Since four years is Van Kerckhoven trainer of Ash in the League A in the women.
Ex-coach Dominique Baeyens has been appointed as the ‘program driver’ or ‘prestatiedirecteur’. He will advice and provide support. Kris Eyckmans is added to the staff as an assistant of Van Kerckhove.
The first task for the new coach of the Red Dragons is the Golden European League, which at the end of may start. Belgium plays against Slovakia, Turkey and Latvia. From 9 to 12 August for the first olympic kwalificatietornooi played. On 12 september start of the european cup, where Belgium is one of the co-organisers.
