Explosion in coal mine in the Czech republic: five dead and eight missing

An explosion in a mine in the Czech republic on Thursday, five miners on life come. Eight others are still missing. There was also a dozen injured.

The explosion occurred Thursday afternoon in a coal mine in the east of the country, in the city of Karvina. The accumulated methane gas at a depth of 800 metres, exploded and a pit did collapse.

The emergency services are still looking for victims. Many workers come from the neighbouring Poland.

The coal mine is since 1968 in use, and would a few years ago was renewed by the owner OKD. That company is since april again in public, after financial problems. Work there are around 9,500 people for the mining company, that this year is about 5 million tons of coal produced.
