“Hellhole”, the second feature film of Bas Devos, in February, in world premiere at the Berlin film Festival, as part of the Panorama section. It reports the Flemish Audiovisual Fund. For Devos, it is already the second selection in Berlin: his debut “Violet”) went there in 2014, also in world premiere and won when the Big Prize of the Generation 14plus section.
“Hellhole” is the story of a few lost souls in Brussels in the year 2016. During his home visits meet doctor William different people. One of his patients, the young Moroccan Mehdi, reminds William to his own son, George, a F16-pilot on a mission in the Middle East. The Italian Alba, an interpreter for the European Parliament, is looking for a way out of her loneliness and apathy in drugs and one-night stands.
The leading roles are played by Willy Thomas, Alba Rohrwacher, Hamsa Belarbi and Lubna azabal are. Dieter Diependaele did the editing and Boris independent director was responsible for the sound. The music is from James Leyland Kirby.
