“Girl”, the debuutlangspeelfilm of Lukas Dhont, evening the price of the best European debut film won the European Film Awards (EFA’s) in Seville.
Lukas Dhont wore during his acceptance speech, the price of two “very special people”, namely the protagonist Victor Pad and Nora Monsecour, the girl whom “Girl” is based.
The transgenderfilm “Girl” was, along with five other films nominated for the Prize of the European Discovery, awarded by the association of film critics Fipresci at the best European debut film. That were “Guilty”, “One Day”, “Scary Mother”, “Those who are fine” and “Touch me not”.
That the debuutprijs to a Flemish film, is no scoop. In 2011, the European Discovery Award, after all, to “Breath”, a film by Hans van Nuffel about a mucoviscidosepatiënt.
“Girl” was nominated in three categories of the EFA’s. Earlier in the evening grabbed the protagonist Victor Pad in addition to the price of the best actor (which went to the Italian actor Marcello Fonte for “Dogman”). “Girl” is also still a chance at the statuette for the best film.
