The original edition of ‘The side of Swann’ (‘Du côté de chez Swann’) by the French writer Marcel Proust is a Friday under the hammer for € 1.51 million euro. That is a world record for an original edition in French, so is Friday heard at the auction house Sotheby’s.
The extremely rare instance that the number 1 bears and Proust was offered to Lucien Daudet, comes from the library of Pierre Bergé and was estimated between 600,000 and 800,000 euros.
