Andrea Anastasi stops for family reasons as coach of the national mannenvolleybalploeg, so made the Belgian Volleyfederatie Friday known. Under the Italian made it to the Red Dragons last summer, a historic tenth place at the world cup.
“I look with pleasure and pride back on the fantastic summer with the Dragons, and I’m glad I’m with such great players and good staff have been able to work,” says Anastasi. “Both professionally and as a human I have a lot of satisfaction at the cooperation as a result. Unfortunately, I can because of family reasons next summer, no more for Belgium to work. I’ll keep the Dragons follow, and I remain a fan.”
The federation is fully engaged with the search for a successor. From may 25, enters Belgium in the Golden European League and plays against Slovakia, Turkey and Latvia. The 58-year-old Anastasi was but since this summer to work for the Dragons. He came when the Poles left Vital Heynen. The Italian had a contract until the end of 2019, with option to renew if the Dragons would be places for the Olympic Games of 2020 in Tokyo.
