The film is a powerful portrait of the young mother, Jade (Vicky Knight), and is about motherhood, courage and self-acceptance in contemporary London. “Dirty God goes beyond oppervlakkigheden and asks questions around shame and beauty, hatred and fear, strength and femininiteit,” says Beyer. “This grandiose film grabs you by the throat, but draws at the same time, a complex and layered image of a strong woman with her own difficult situation dealt.”
Just a few days after its world premiere in Rotterdam will Dirty God, the first English-language film of Polak, at the Sundance Film Festival to be seen as the first Dutch film ever in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition. Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven (Culture) will be on the opening night of the IFFR. The ticket sale for Dirty God at the festival is Thursday launched.
