VALLETTA – more and more Turks are asking for asylum in EU countries. In October, there were 2880, 9 percent more than the month before and a record number. The majority is newly arrived in the EU, says the European asielagentschap EASO.
Immigration authorities in Europe were at the end of October 17.300 applications of Turkish citizens, also a record. In cases closed was 44 percent in the past six months, protected status, and almost always that of a refugee.
In October asked more than 60.500 people a protected status in EU countries, the highest number this year, but less than in 2017. Most of the requests continue to come from Syrians, Afghans and Iraqis.
Turkey is on place five of countries of origin. Iran rose to the fourth place with 3170 requests, the highest number in more than two years. In the past six months led more than one in three Iranian requests to a protected status. Incidentally, the number of asylum claims by Georgians, Venezuelans and Albanians in terms of percentage the most.
