Borussia Dortmund is counting Tuesday night (21h00) for the unnecessary last groepsduel in the Champions League in Monaco, not on a Red Devil Axel Witsel. He gets rest, just like their star players Thomas Delaney, Marco Reus and Lukasz Piszczek. They struggle all with injuries.
Dortmund traveled with a carpentry selection to Monaco. Delaney (calf), Giant (thigh), Piszczek and Bruun Larsen (both knee) and Zagadou (foot) got the Monday morning, not on the plane to the principality. Also absent Jadon Sancho (death in the family) and Witsel, who simply rested.
“The game at Schalke 04 on Saturday (1-2 win) has many powers cost”, explained Sebastian Kehl, the former captain of the Borussen and currently a member of the athletic staff. “Some players are exhausted by the rapid succession of contests over the last few weeks.”
For Dortmund in Monaco, only the group’s profit still on the game. The Germans are currently second in group A with ten points after five matches. Group leader Atlético Madrid (12 pts) draws also on Tuesday to Club Brugge (5 pts), as number three to the Europa League. Monaco (1 pt) is already sure of the shutdown.
