The circumstances of the murder of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to the UN Commissioner for human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, by an international committee, are to be examined.
“We have no mandate for criminal investigations to start,” said Bachelet on Wednesday during a press conference in Geneva. Multiple independent mensenrechtenrapporteurs have, however, been asked for an international investigation. The UN member states to such an investigation must ask.
“I believe that it is really necessary to find out what really happened and who is for the terrible murder responsible,” continued Bachelet.
The dissident journalist Khashoggi was early October and killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
