Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has apologised to Everton fans for his blunder on Sunday, the decision meant in the always fraught Merseyside-derby against Liverpool (1-0 loss).
“I want to say I’m sorry to our supporters,” said the 24-year-old Pickford after the game at Anfield against The Guardian. “I know what this derby means to them. It also means a lot for us as players. But now you once the occasional error.”
The first goalkeeper of England verkeek in the sixth minute of injury time on a mispeer of Virgil van Dijk. Pickford wanted the ball high into the air, went about his goal of tapping, but that failed. The ball came down on the crossbar and fell at the feet of Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who the winning hit was made.
