Twelve Greenpeace militants, including three Belgians, have been arrested in Slovakia. The activists presented Thursday at the mining site in Nováky, in the centre of the country.
The twelve activists were last week Thursday on the shaft tower of the mine in the Nováky climbed, and had banners hung against the coal industry. In Slovakia, a large part of the energy is still from coal extracted.
According to Greenpeace, the charges against the militants ‘totally unfounded’. The demonstrators are risking a prison sentence of up to five years, but Greenpeace draw an appeal against their detention.
