The Louvre in Paris, the most visited museum in the world, is now a once a month completely free to visit. That cannot bode well for the queues.
With 8.1 million visitors to the Louvre last year, is the most visited museum in the world, a title that in the years before, even though often could claim. But the Parisian museum would like to have more young people on the ground, who have little to no budget for culture. Therefore, the museum will from 2019 a Saturday night per month completely free of charge to visit are between 18 and 21.45 hrs. The first nocturne takes place on 5 January.
The Louvre experimented in the past with free access to six Sundays per year, but saw mainly the share of foreign tourists lifted. A ticket to the full price cost seventeen euros.
