The new Belgian-Dutch procontinentale team Roompot-Charles is Thursday afternoon officially presented. The riders, including six Belgians, were proposed, like the new shirt for 2019. The team wants to be in sport to build on the foundations that predecessors Roompot and Veranda’s Willems explained.
“We are a young organization with a group of very enthusiastic and motivated riders and staff”, opened the Dutch general manager Michael Zijlaard, who, together with Nick Nuyens the daily management of the team in the hands will take. “We want to us in a positive way to show to the world: open, sincere, no-nonsense. We are committed to raising the bar still higher, want a progressive player in the world of cycling and to keep our boundaries.”
Nick Nuyens went on the words of Zijlaard. “What the team also makes unique is the combination of field and road. We are Roompot-Charles on the road, but veldritteam ‘Charles’ is housed under the same roof. The strength of this project lies also in the combination of the best elements of both teams.”
Team managers Michael Boogerd, Erik Breukink and Jean-Paul van Poppel confirmed in sport to want to build on the foundations that have already been placed for both precursors: striking, attacking and attractive prices. The team focuses mainly on results in the Europe Tour and wants in terms of results, connecting with the smaller WorldTour teams.
Roompot-Charles counts in 2019 six countrymen and women in its ranks: Sean De Bie, Mathias White, Senne Leysen, Arjen Livyns, Stijn Steels and Michael Van Staeyen. Also Lars Boom defends next season, the colors of the new team.
World champion cyclocross Wout van Aert would in the first instance, also be part of the project, but Of Aert denounced the lack of communication and broke off mid-september his contract.
