Egyptian archaeologists have eight coffins with mummies unearthed south of the capital Cairo. That made the Egyptian ministry of Antiquities Wednesday known.
The eight sarcophagi were found in the area of the pyramid of pharaoh Amenemhat II, in the necropolis in Dasjoer. The mummies, dating from the late period in Ancient Egypt, between 664 and 332 Bc.
The past few months, it announced that Egypt, several discoveries from the ancient times, in the hope of the tourism industry to breathe new life into, an important sector for the country. Tourism was heavily impacted by the unrest since the uprising in 2011 against dictator Hosni Mubarak.
