Washington, D. C. – Monday night was so far: NASA-mission Insight needed to land on Mars. The redeeming news of InSight came about eight minutes after landing on earth. That happened about 20.53 hours Dutch time. This made the monster trip of 484 million miles of flying complete.
The mission lasts more than two years.
The tension rose. Space Expo-director Rob van den Berg: “Less than half of the Mars missions succeeds.”
The InSight was on may 5, launched from California. As the first explorer ever the vehicle must be meters deep in the soil of Mars and drill. So scientists can learn what lies beneath the surface.

The place where the InSight landed, is called Elysium Planitia. That is a barren plain, just above the equator of Mars. Nothing stands out on the landscape, and that is why the choice on that landing place cases. The InSight is not the surface, but to the inner life of Mars. Countries and drilling is going to be easier on a plain which is level. Because there are no shadows, the solar panels of the lander enough energy.
Another instrument of the InSight or Mars quakes. Probably, but that are likely to be different than that on earth. The earth consists of plates that, along, against, over and under each other, sliding and shock. Mars has not. The scientists behind the mission, thinking that they are in the coming years, tens to hundreds of Marsbevingen measure. The heaviest units can be a strength of 6.0. Such vibrations can tell us something about the interior of Mars, as if it were a zwangerschapsecho.
The mission lasts more than two years. Almost twenty devices have been tried on Mars to land. Seven landings achieved. Four of them were creepers, which rondreden. In 2020, like Europe and Russia together a Marskarretje launch.
