The former Greek minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis in Germany candidate for the European elections. That was today decided at a conference of his party DiEM25, Democracy in Europe Movement 2025.
The eccentric economist was from January to July 2015 the Greek minister of Finance under prime minister Alexis Tsipras of the leftist Syriza. He played an important role in the late phase of the euro crisis and the negotiations between Greece and the European Union on the Greek debt.
In 2016 founded Varoufakis a pan-European party: DiEM 25 – Democracy in Europe Movement 2025. The movement is committed to more democracy in Europe and looks at a nationalistic and fractured Europe.
DiEM25 now in may of 2019 participated in the elections in Germany, with Varoufakis as a candidate. “I accept this nomination because it is the new transnational politics imagines that we now need in Europe,” said Varoufakis. Under the slogan “European spring” attracts DiEM25 to the chooser.
