Van der Poel wins wet Jaarmarktcross, Aerts strengthens leadership position in DVV Insurance Trophy

Mathieu van der Poel is a good start to his mission to re-in the battle for the DVV Verzekeringen Trophy to throw. The European champion triumphed in a slippery Jaarmarktcross in Niel. Klassementsleider Toon Aerts, the openingsmanche on the Koppenberg, won, did it again very good with a second place and gave the finish a handful of seconds on the Dutchman. Laurens Sweeck was the third man on stage.

No world champion Wout van Aert on the Jaarmarktcross in Niel. And so all eyes were on brand new European champion Mathieu van der Poel, who, after his offday on the Koppenberg a gap of four minutes to make had to Show Aerts in the DVV Verzekeringen Trophy standings. However, it was not Van der Poel, but klassementsleider Aerts that is the best start took. Quickly took Tim Merlier (Crelan-Charles) the head. But with a nice movement demanded Van der Poel quickly took the lead on, although everything on a handkerchief remained.

A bit shocked it was in round two, when Aerts a small tuimelperte made. Without very for the former European champion, that his way could just continue. At the end of round two seemed to be the current European champion short shrift to the field when he off went, but the job was still far off for Van der Poel. In the background took a very strong Laurens Sweeck, after all, the command of Aerts, who had to solve the problem. And in round four came Sweeck really connect with Van der Poel.

A little later came also Aerts and co-Telenet Fidea cycling team Lion Lars van der haar to connect. After a mistake of Aerts had two Sweeck, however, be drive. Van der Poel returned back to our young fellow countryman. In round seven, the Dutch are winning attack, as it turned out: Sweeck had to unload, Van der Poel was once again left. Though he was still not completely sure, because from the background gave Aerts has not yet won.

In the final lap came Aerts still just setting up, but Van der Poel kept his lead intact and won with ten seconds ahead of Aerts. Sweeck had been on more than a half a minute, but ended up as a handsome number three. Van der haar had to satisfy with position four.

Van der Poel may be satisfied with a new victory, but catching up on klassementsleider Show Aerts is still significant. The gap between the two is now 4 minutes and 7 seconds. Next week, the European champion, a new chance to get that backlog to chew: the third round of the regelmatigheidscriterium is next Sunday driven in Hamme.
