The association of European football leagues has again vehemently spoken out against the possible creation of a Super League for sixteen of the top clubs from Europe. According to European Leagues, the federation of thirty leagues, including the Belgian and Dutch, the Super League the future of professional football in Europe threaten.
“National football shapes in the whole of Europe the core for all parties involved: players, clubs, leagues, national federations and especially for the fans. The proposal for a closed Super League will in the long term, serious, and enduring consequences for professional football in Europe”, writing to the affiliated leagues. “European Leagues has already repeatedly spoken out against the formation of a closed Super League.” The association stresses that the European bond UEFA is leading in the organisation of international competitions in this continent.
Rumors about the possible creation of a Super League, there are already longer. Last week unveiled klokkenluidersplatform Football Leaks is that the new ‘supercompetitie’ in 2021 would start with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Olympique Marseille, Internazionale and AS Roma as participants. These clubs would even consider dating their national league. They think they’re in a mutual and exclusive competition a lot more money to earn than, for example, in the Champions League.
“We are supporting the European sports model, based on a pyramid structure with promotion and relegation, in which the sporting performance of clubs that are leading,” says the European leagues.
