Jurrian van Dongen translates musical Kinky Boots

Van Dongen translated previously the musicals Dreamgirls and Urine Town to the Dutch. For the latter, he received a Musical Award. In addition, the writer twenty years ago, won the Annie M. G. Schmidt prize for the most impressive theaterlied of the year.

The show, with music by Cyndi Lauper, is based on the British comedy from 2005 in which a man in his twenties, the shoe factory of his father inherits. To file for bankruptcy to stave off, he goes to work with the flamboyant drag queen Lola. Together, depositing them on the market in kinky boots for ladies that are actually gentlemen. But not all employees of the factory are equally pleased with this new direction.

The play draws on Broadway since 2013 to full houses. The piece went since its premiere in more than ten countries.
