Movie studio Paramount is according to sources the film. Universal has the option to include the project co-financing.
The first part, in which Russell Crowe in the leading role, came nearly twenty years ago. The film was about the Roman general Maximus (Crowe), who by Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the evil son of the emperor, was betrayed and sold as a gladiator. Maximus’ family was murdered and Commodus hold after the death of his father, the power. Maximus worked, therefore, as a gladiator to his family to avenge and Commodus to kill.
The film was nominated for eleven Oscars and won eventually five, including Best Film and Best Actor.
