Elise Mertens (WTA 13) has her first team contest at the WTA Elite Trophy in the Chinese Zhuhai (hard/2.349.363 dollar) winning closed. The Limburg beat in group D, the Estonian Anett Kontaveit (WTA 20) after an hour of tennis in two sets (6-3 and 6-1).
Wednesday awaits for Mertens, her second pouleduel, against the German Julia Görges (WTA 14).
The WTA Elite Trophy (also known as the B-Masters) take twelve players part that could not place for the WTA Finals in Singapore. They are divided into four groups of three. The four group winners qualify for the semi-finals.
Mertens has a few turbulent weeks behind them. Belgium’s best tennis player broke down in september with the German coach Dieter Kindlmann and suggested in the meantime, the Australian David Taylor as her new trainer.
