CAPE town – former South African president Frederik Willem de Klerk is in the hospital. The 82-year-old winner of the Nobel prize for Peace has a lung disease, reports his FW de Klerk Foundation.
The Clerk led South Africa from 1989 to 1994. He received the Nobel prize in 1993, together with his later successor, Nelson Mandela. They thanked that prestigious award to their efforts, the apartheid regime peacefully to an end.
The former president has, according to his foundation “a successful operation.” He is expected to next week in the hospital in Cape town to leave.
