Roberto Benigni gets six years after his role in ‘To Rome with Love’ Woody Allen once again a roll of film is assigned: the 65-year-old actor and comedian was cast as Geppetto in the live-action film ‘Pinocchio’ of the Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone (‘Gomorrah’). That makes entertainmentmagazine Variety known. Benigni made in 1997 to fame with the tragicomedy “La vita è bella”. He directed the film and played the lead role. He won three Oscars, including Best Actor.
Benigni was the immense success of ‘La vita è bella” is never really equal. His last film, “La tigre e la neve’, dates already from 2005.
‘Pinocchio’ is an international collaboration between Italy and France. Rai Cinema, the movie will release in Italy, and Le Pacte in France. The pictures start in early 2019 on location in the Italian regions of Apulia, Tuscany and Lazio.
The animals and creatures will are brought to life via a special make-up, prosthetics and visual effects of the hand of Mark Coulier, two-time “oscar” Italian for his work in ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ and ‘The Iron Lady’, in collaboration with Rachael Penfold, ‘The Revenant’ visual opsmukte.
