During the VRT-taalfeest Taaldag 10, in the legendary Studio 4 in the Flageygebouw in Brussels, Hajo Beeckman declared the winner of the Big Prize Jan Wauters 2018. The VRT-journalist was the favorite taalvirtuoos of the jury. They described him as “a verkeersanker us with a quiet class clearly and efficiently through the worst traffic jams.”
Wim Opbrouck if the public prize. For the third Audience award Jan Wauters were almost 4000 votes. One in five voters chose to Bake Off Flanders-presenter Wim Opbrouck. The jury was full of praise: “His lyrics and presentation are candies for the taalliefhebber.”
The Big Prize Jan Wauters, also a Dutch media personality “who excels in the use of English, and whose language testifies to an excellent command of language and a great creativity”. With this award, the VRT is the memory of one of its largest taalvirtuozen, sport’s commentator Jan Wauters, keep alive.
